OCTOBER 5, 2024
Election season is finally here! To kick off this exciting time, Student Body candidates participated in Manifestos, showcasing their public speaking skills, delivering captivating speeches, and sharing their innovative ideas. The event was expertly hosted by Event Planning team members Narys and Roland.
The event began with introductions to the student-run Mentorship, Media, and Event Planning teams, core organizations at DIS that significantly contribute to the school’s development. Whether planning engaging events, enhancing school exposure through social media, or creating safe spaces for students to share their concerns, these teams work tirelessly to make DIS a supportive and thriving environment for all.
Next, the Student Body candidates delivered speeches, using their platform to share their views and values for the positions they seek. Among the standout candidates was Jaden David, running for High School Sports Representative. His inspiring speech focused on his passion for "creating the best sporting opportunities for every student." He expressed his determination to "put DIS on the map" through strong leadership and teamwork, aiming to make the school’s sports program more inclusive and enjoyable for all.
Karen Natai and Timothy Tumaini, both candidates for the Disciplinary position, delivered exceptional speeches. Timothy emphasized the importance of creating a safe environment for students, both mentally and physically, and pledged to advocate for a peaceful school experience. Karen highlighted her determination and commitment to the role, promising to listen and act in the best interest of all students equally.
A-level representative candidates Kellen Mjenga and Salome Joseph demonstrated a strong understanding of the role and outlined steps to provide students with a more comfortable and interactive study experience. Additionally, Treasurer candidate Faith Paul pledged to responsibly manage school funds, ensuring transparency and that the funds are used for the benefit of the students.
Secretary candidate Nathan Sinare vowed to be an exceptional medium between the students and the student council, ensuring that all queries, ideas, opinions, and suggestions are effectively received and understood by both parties. He promises to put words into action and ensures that all voices will be heard.
Vice President candidates Goldman Karratta, Brighton Chale, and Qassim Hamza aim to collaborate with the future president and student council to create a school environment that DIS students will enjoy and look forward to.
Lastly, but certainly not least, are the President candidates: Arianna Tukai, Tamar Ezekiel, Alahfia Chase, and Tuari Abdinur, who all brilliantly executed their manifestos. Arianna addressed current complaints and concerns from DIS students and outlined several solutions she plans to implement. Former Secretary of the Council, Tamar, shared her plan to prioritize student well-being and collaboration as an effective leader. Former Vice President Alahfia conveyed her competence for the role due to her close work with the previous President, Mark Kaganda. Finally, Tuari promised to be a leader who takes initiative, acts decisively, and creates a safe space for students to thrive and grow.
Congratulations to all candidates on your impressive and riveting speeches. Good luck!
